Volunteering with re:fresh

What is it?

re:fresh offers the people of Blackburn with Darwen the opportunity to access a huge range of leisure, health and well-being activities, sports activities, health and dietary advice plus much more.

All volunteers will be supported through a training program which will enable them to deliver their role.

Here is an overview of the volunteers opportunities available…

Group Volunteering

Being part of a team of volunteers to raise awareness of healthy lifestyles messages to target groups.

Campaigns and Events

The volunteer will provide healthy lifestyle information to people at events and take part in health campaigns such as No Smoking Day.  The role will involve talking to people about health and well-being and handing out leaflets.

Activity Buddy

Activity buddies offer short term 1:1 support to any individual attending an activity or session for the first time.  Buddies will offer support in activities such as walking, cycling and aerobics, in the gym or to attend health workshops.

Workplace

A workplace health volunteer will provide healthy lifestyle information to their colleagues.  The role will involve promoting health and well-being, displaying posters and handing out leaflets.

Gardens and Allotment Worker

The volunteer will offer support to individuals and groups accessing the allotment sites.  Volunteering will involve physical and manual work during the hours of 10am – 3pm, Monday to Friday.

re:fresh Rep

The volunteer will act as a representative and will meet and greet any new members to the class and generally promote re:fresh activities through the use of social media, promotional materials or by word of mouth.

Session Support

The volunteer will support the delivery of a weekly session, including activities such as: walking, cycling, sports, fitness sessions, stop smoking clinics and health workshops.

Session Leader

This role is ideal for volunteers who would like to deliver a group activity.  This could be an existing session or an idea you have to develop a new group activity.  The role will involve a substantial commitment to deliver a session on a weekly basis.

Who is it for?

re:fresh recruits volunteers to support and complement existing services.  The re:fresh volunteer program offers a wide range of opportunities to choose from and are looking to recruit people who are:

  • over the age of 16
  • friendly and approachable
  • reliable and trustworthy
  • enthusiastic and motivated
  • interested in health and well-being
