Volunteer walk leader Rita hits 90!

< Back to News

Rita is a volunteer walks leader for re:fresh who helps lead a walking group for people with lung conditions and recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

Having many years of walking experience with the Blackburn Ramblers and a lifetime of love for walking in and around Blackburn and the East Lancashire area, Rita now at 90, volunteers to inspire others to walk and gain the many benefits of being in the great outdoors.

Rita enjoys showing people with health problems who may initially be scared of walking that they can do it. People with lung conditions who suffer with breathlessness often feel their walking days are over but once they meet Rita, with her can do attitude, find they cannot say no to the enthusiastic “little old lady” leading from the front.

The re:fresh walk goes to the pace of the slowest person and Rita who has health problems herself supports people to improve their walking ability and enjoy the natural beauty of Witton park.

re:fresh run a range of walks for people of different abilities. If you would like to walk but are unsure of your ability, then please contact the Wellbeing service on 01254 682037.
