The Sports Development Team, although small in structure, has a notable impact on the development of sport within the borough. Working in partnership with numerous organisations, the team are able to provide support and guidance with all aspects of community sports; increasing sports participation and improving standards in sport.
“Sport” means all forms of physical activity which, through casual or organised participation, aim at expressing or improving physical fitness and mental wellbeing; forming social relationships or obtaining results in competition at all levels.
Blackburn with Darwen relies on a partnership of statutory and voluntary agencies to develop sport. The borough has in place development opportunities for volunteers, coaches and officials, whilst also providing information, advice, courses and guidance.
Sports Development provide support in the wider context through club development, volunteer development, coach development, club links to schools and the community, funding advice and advocacy such as supporting funding bids.
It is a priority to enthuse the Borough in becoming involved in sport and create a lasting legacy from the London 2012 Olympics, the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and other world sporting events over the coming years.
